Ellen Schnelle, MSW

University of Missouri-Columbia

West Middle School

Outreach Counselor

I am a second year MSW student at the University of Missouri-Columbia on the clinical track. I received my BSW from “Mizzou,” in 2020. I have appreciated the opportunities I have had throughout my years in Columbia. I have gained a deep love for the Columbia community and the resources it provides. I look forward to the opportunities I will have in the Columbia community and beyond. I hope to increase my skill set, and bring a new perspective to whatever setting I may work in. I have historically worked with the adult population throughout my time in the social work field, specifically justice-involved individuals and those with intellectual abilities, as well as performing individualized psychotherapy for adults in Columbia who do not have access to or the means for formal individualized counseling.

I am currently working in a school setting with an adolescent population (ages 11-14). I have gained skills in completing social assessments, performing case management duties, facilitating groups, practicing crisis intervention and suicide assessment; as well as increasing my capacity to connect with clients and build rapport. I have grown to be a strong advocate. I look forward to continuing to learn in this setting and work to impact the communities I am working with. I am interested in gaining new experiences, but would also like to increase my knowledge within the intersectionality between mental health and the criminal justice system.

This ePortfolio is outlined by seven sections.

The Philosophy statement discusses my experience with social work, my short-term and long-term goals, and my hopes for the profession.

My resume outlines my experience and involvement throughout undergraduate and graduate school.

The artifacts are all representative of projects or papers done throughout the social work program that discuss social justice issues, policies, research, and clinical practice. These artifacts are examples of how to promote social justice in different areas.
