This course prepares undergraduate preservice elementary teachers to take a critical, inquiry-based approach to teaching Elementary Social Studies. Preservice teachers will learn how to prepare their young students to explore social studies disciplines such as history, civics, geography, and economics in order to understand, participate in, and make informed decisions about their world. We will investigate how to equip elementary students with the skills needed to explore their identities, respect others’ differences, consider multiple perspectives, ask compelling questions, evaluate sources, problem solve, deliberate, take civic action, and more.
