1. What is your understanding of the key message in Professor Richard Alley's video presentation?

The key message to me is that the more carbon dioxide there is in the atmosphere the hotter it gets here on earth. And the hotter that it gets the more rapidly that the planet moves through its cycle of releasing other gases frozen in the permafrost which in return speed up the process even faster. And since the 1700s it has been more of a hockey stick which at the end the amount of carbon dioxide has shot up very fast and the earth is hotter now than it has been for a very long time. And the more global warming that happens the stronger the natural disasters are going to be and the more damage will be done to cities and this will just have an impact on such things like oil rigs that can release oil into the ocean from hurricanes that can break them off of the pipes that are drilled into the ocean floor.

2. Provide your perspectives on Sir David Attenborough's movie - A Life on Our Planet. What struck you the most as the key message of the movie?

My perspectives on Sir David Attenborough's movie are that he has watched this change happen and has had the chance to document it. I think that we humans are knowingly hurting the planet and we continue to until we can no longer have a livable life here on earth. As stated by Sir David Attenborough he was lucky enough to be born at the right time to document and give his witness statement on what he as seen in his lifetime. With seeing him be able to travel around the world it was nice to know that people do care. With the amount of people using air travel and the addiction of having the newest items coming from big companies we are all contributing to the continued destruction of the environment. One thing that stuck out is the areas that are trying to get back to being wild and having land that goes to a similar look to what it had before it was destroyed. Looking at the rain forest for example forests like that are great for taking carbon dioxide out of the air and the more we tear down the harder it is for the forest help protect us. We need the forest and oceans like the example of the overfishing in the oceans and where the protected fishing areas helped have a huge impact on the fish repopulating and moving out of the protected waters. When the fish in the protected areas did better the fishermen near the protected areas were able to bring in more fish. We as a species seem to be very greedy and want more and more and through witnessing the change throughout the film it was clear to me that we all need to make changes. And I see this as the biggest and hardest step we all want change and it takes time for us to becoming okay with that change.
