For competency 7 social workers are to collect and organize data, and apply critical thinking to interpret information from clients and constituencies. Within my  practicum I assess individual, families, groups, organizations and communities by using the the collective partners of Avenue of Life such as Our Spot, and all impact of KCK and provide them with a list of the clients past due bills and evictions to assist with self sufficiency. I feel like with this I was able to learn how to select appropriate intervention strategies based on the assessment, research knowledge, and values and preferences of clients and constituencies I was always under the impression that the role of a social worker is to create goals that the program wants and although the goal we set are within the boundaries of the program I learned that it is truly are job to allow the client to create the goals for themselves no matter what they are and we help guide them to achieve it. I feel like I was able to better able check myself and not put my expectations onto the client nor try to do it for them/make them do it the way I think it should be complete. I feel like this will help me in my future career to not only work within the NASW values but also can actually help achieve completion of goals because they are what the client wants and not what "we" think they need.
