In the fourth competency, social workers analyze qualitative and quantitative research methods and results using critical thinking. As part of my practicum, I developed a survey on the diverse population of homeless people that incorporated practice-informed research and practice-informed practice. Helping create a survey that captured the diversity of the homeless population was humbling. I had the opportunity to learn how the program works within the community to serve potential clients. In order to create a survey to determine whether a person is eligible for services, I was overwhelmed by the amount of information needed. Despite the fact that the information in the survey is pertinent, it seemed like an overwhelming task and I wonder how this impacts those who have to fill it out to get resources.
