I believe my practicum has helped me to learn, practice, and achieve competency 8 because every day I was able to negotiate, mediate and advocate with and on the behalf of the residents in the shelter. I was able to help the staff write proposals and speeches to recite at town hall meetings that encourage fair and impartial treatment for the LGBTQ+ population. I was also able to facilitate effective transitions and endings that advance mutually agreed-on goals by coming up with innovative ways for residents to reach their goals based on individual interests and I was able to measure that I was completing having hands-on experience seeing the youth accomplish goals as well as being able to have one on one with them and having them tell me for themselves what areas I have helped and what I can do differently as well.
