  1. Provide an example of a discussion about ethics that particularly illuminated your understanding of social work. (CSWE 1:1)

During supervision, I discussed with my field instructor my ethical dilemma concerning taking a step back and allowing a student who recently was hospitalized with suicide ideation that did not exhibit signs prior to hospitalization to express their capacity and opportunity to change and address their own needs when they state they do not want to do or feel the need for check-in since they are no longer feeling suicidal but also making sure they remain safe. Due to the circumstances, I had a dilemma between advocating for autonomy and making sure I didn't push for it too soon. It was easy for me to identify what challenges were due to my own biases and what were in accordance with the protocol. We concluded that I can still do check ins with the student once a week which included them simply telling me at lunch check ins by being as simple as them stating they are ok without having to have a formal sit down discussion in my office unless they need it.

2. What steps do you take to manage uncertainty in instances when there is an ethical dilemma and professional values are challenged? (CSWE 1.3 V).

My approach to managing uncertainty in ethical dilemmas and challenges to professional values involves first reviewing the code of ethics to determine if the issue is an ethical violation or just personal bias. My next step is to consult with my field instructor/supervisor. Next, I will brainstorm solutions if possible.
